The online application for appointment of the Law Office of the Public Defender can be found at the link below.
The fully completed and signed applications should be emailed to the Clerk of Courts for an indigence determination. You can email the application to felonyeclerk@browardclerk.org
At present, the online application is not currently available for juvenile cases.

“Please note – Per Florida law, not all legal matters can be handled by the Law Office of the Public Defender; for some issues you may not be entitled to appointed counsel. The Clerk of Court will assess the $50.00 application fee for every application submitted, whether or not your issue entitles you to have an attorney appointed to handle it. If you are unsure about whether your issue is eligible to be handled by appointed counsel, please contact us by submitting your information to us on our Homepage under “general questions” to inquire BEFORE completing the application.”
APPLICATION FEE
$50
There is a $50 application fee assessed for each application filed for consideration of appointment of the Law Office of the Public Defender to represent you in a criminal matter.
The $50 Public Defender Application Fee was created by the Florida Legislature. The fee is not refundable and applies whether or not a Public Defender is actually appointed for you. However, if you do not have the money, you cannot be denied a Public Defender. The $50 fee can be paid or payment plan arranged at the County Clerk of Courts Office.
